Even small steps mean progress

When we switched to water-based lacquer on BUMERANG hanger it wasn't just the lacquer that had to be changed. The machines, production methods and factory environment had to be changed too. It took some time. But good things come to those who wait. And with the new lacquer, we're now reducing the effect of the hanger on the ozone layer.

What is solid wood?

Solid wood is one of our favourite materials and is part of our Scandinavian heritage. It is also a timeless material with many uses. Regardless of the wood species, it is durable, beautiful, renewable and recyclable. We strive to use this raw material as smartly and efficiently as possible to avoid waste – and we also invest in facilities and logistics so that we can increase the use of recycled wood. This way, every tree is put to good use that little extra.

Easy bedroom makeover
Easy bedroom makeover

The bedroom has never been just a space for sleeping. In addition to the bed, it has to accommodate a lot of stuff, including a wardrobe and sometimes even a baby cot. But how to avoid running out of space? When setting up your bedroom, look for functional furniture that are easy to adapt to personal needs.

“Home idea with IKEA”: turning the children's room into a bedroom for two

This week, we invite you to visit Jolita and Algimantas from Kaunas and their three-room apartment. Formerly the largest room in this apartment belonged to their children. Now, when the grown up kids have left home, the couple decided to pamper themselves on their 30th wedding anniversary and to turn this room into their very own bedroom. IKEA interior designer Laura came to help, and now you can check the result!

As they’re both about living their best lives, rather than having the most expensive stuff, they’ve created a home to be enjoyed together and apart. From dance and dinner parties to quiet “me-time” moments, it all happens here.

Before and after: a cosy granny's bedroom
Before and after: a cosy granny's bedroom

The 50th anniversary episode of "Home Idea with IKEA" invites us to Kaunas. The occasion is special, no less than the heroine of this week, the golden-ager Laima who is bursting with joy and energy. Having worked as an accountant all her life, she has finally discovered her true vocation and now spends most of her time with her grandchildren. Laima is full of love for the little ones yet tends to forget showing some of it to herself. She lives in an old apartment and sleeps on the couch in the room that used to belong to her already adult daughters. Together with the interior designer Laura, we came to furnish a bedroom that she has fairly deserved.
