We know that home is the most important place in the world. That’s why we meet people where they live, to learn about what they need and dream about when it comes to life at home. This year, the inhabitants of  Baltic states were also involved into the Life at Home research conducted by IKEA worldwide. They were asked to share their experience regarding privacy at home.
What does it mean to enjoy privacy?
For some of us it means lazy time doing nothing, being in silence or having a good sleep and rest. Meanwhile others (and the majority of all) say it is about spending time on their hobbies. No matter what we do to recharge ourselves, we all undoubtedly agree that the best place for privacy moments is home.
74 % of Lithuanians agree the size of home doesn’t impact the privacy they can achieve
Making space for privacy is easier than you might think, even if you live in a one-room apartment. Think about the activities that help you shut off your brain and engage in them every time you want a minute of privacy. Maybe you will discover a new hobby or remember your old love for handcrafts?
Knitting is said to soothe and relax, so always keep a basket with threads and needles near your favourite armchair. Engaging in activities you love can help you focus, no matter how many people there are in the room with you.
78 % of Lithuanians need privacy to achieve better focus and accomplish their tasks
When you need to get the headspace to focus on important decisions or tasks (like paying taxes) at home, having a room with a sound-proof door would be great, wouldn't it? But if you don't have one, you can also set up a temporary office right in your kitchen. The versatile table can serve for both a desk for computer and a dining table for dinner with family or friends. To be sure that no one will disturb you while working, you can also hang a board in a visible place to write down your private hours.
54 % of parents admit that they lack privacy at home
More than half of parents with young children lack privacy at home and have no minute to reflect alone. Don't let your home become another place of work. Give yourself at least a few minutes to rest and recharge. Having a "playground" for kids on the living room rug or a play kitchen where they can play safely without supervision means you can get some me-time or chat with your partner in privacy.
51 % of Lithuanians say they like to relax when private at home
The bathroom is one of those places at home where you can spend some time for yourself. The longer, the better (even if someone is already knocking on door). Take a soft towel, a book and some candles to the bathroom. They will help you create a cozy, sheltered oasis and finally relax after a hard day at work. All you need is to find an extra half hour on a busy schedule and warn your household that you're gone for a while.
