On the occasion of Swedish Meatball Day celebrated on 24th of August, we invite you to the IKEA Restaurant where you can try two new meatball dishes made by a well-known journalist, traveller and chef Vytaras Radzevičius. Special offer is valid until 30th of September.
A kitchen full of smells and smiles
For one day, V. Radzevičius became a chef of the IKEA Restaurant. His recipes were modified and refined together with our kitchen staff. As the chef says, one mustn't be angry while cooking, so our kitchen was full of laughter and smiles throughout the whole process.
Meatball soup by Vytaras
One of the new dishes you can try at the IKEA Restaurant is a homemade soup rich in taste and aroma that can bring you back to your childhood. Feeling nostalgic for your grandmother's meatball soup? Visit our Restaurant for Vytaras' interpretation with Swedish meatballs. Or, if you prefer cooking at home, follow the recipe below.
Serves 4

Ingredients
• 1l chicken broth
• 20 pcs frozen ALLEMANSRÄTTEN meatballs (or chicken meatballs, or vegetable balls)
• 100g white beans
• 1 medium-size carrot
• 2 large potatoes
• 2 onions
• 6 garlic cloves
• 25g (1 tsp) butter
• salt and pepper to taste
• dill and parsley to taste
• 4 bay leaves

Preparation
Bring chicken broth to a boil. Add soaked beans, diced carrots, potatoes and a peeled onion head. Cook until the vegetables are done.
Chop another onion head and all garlic cloves. Fry until golden in a pan with butter.
Toss meatballs in a pot of soup. Add fried garlic and onion.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
Serve in a bowl with chopped dill and parsley.
A tasty way to save the planet
Did you know that by eating our meatballs and vegetable balls you reduce air pollution? Compared to production of a classic meatball, one chicken meatball leaves five times smaller carbon footprint, while one vegetable ball leaves thirty times smaller footprint.
Exotic meatballs by Vytaras
Vytaras took inspiration for this recipe from his trip to Indonesia. In this exotic land, the meatballs are called "bakso" and locals usually eat them with a spicy sauce made of chilli and tomatoes. Vytaras decided to improvise and mix it with a traditional Swedish meatballs seasoning - lingonberry jam.  Would you like to taste the result? Come to IKEA and try our new exotic meatballs with this spicy sauce or choose a mild one instead. Or - you can also prepare both sauces at home.
