This week, we invite you to visit a vivid Dirmantai family in Vilnius. The family of five lives in a five-room apartment, and each of the brothers has a separate room. Unfortunately, during the renovation of their apartment, the room of the eldest brother remained untouched. The twelfth-grader Andrius is a very active young man who makes a video blog about fishing and has many other hobbies. Could he fit them all into a small room? IKEA interior designer Asta helped Andrius to find the answer.

Single room, lots of action
Before the renovation, Andrius has lived in this room together with a variety of things and open storage. Fishing and filming equipment, sport gear, a snowboard, different tools, textbooks and clothes had a hard time fitting into a small closet, on several shelves and on the desk. Many furniture in different colours and even more of the scattered items made the room look chaotic.
Zoning is the key
The most of Andrius' activities take place in his room. Here, he studies, eats, films and edits vlog videos, exercises, invites friends, relaxes, and sleeps... In short, he does everything in one room. Therefore, Asta decided to divide the small room into several areas for different activities. She placed a desk by the window, set up a fishing corner on the left of it and a sleeping / leisure area on the right.
After planning the layout, she chose colours and furniture that create a solid style in the room - much more youthful and modern than before.
A well-planned home office
The interior designer moved the desk closer to the window to give Andrius more light when working or studying. The height-adjustable BEKANT corner desk has a wide top. However, to avoid the clutter on it, Asta placed an additional ALEX drawer unit next to the desk and attached a couple of LACK wall shelves above it. As for the sitting, Asta let Andrius decide for himself: now he can choose between LÅNGFJÄLL chair with armrests and NILSERIK standing support. If necessary, two brothers can use the same desk together.
Running out of space on the desk?
When attached to the wall, SKÅDIS pegboard helps to save space and let you store smaller items that no longer fit in the drawers or on the desk. Combine it with different containers, clips, hooks or other accessories to create the combination you need.
“When there are many activities in one room, general lighting alone may not be enough. Then IKEA smart lighting kits come in handy. Using LED bulbs with TRÅDFRI remote control makes it easy to dim and adjust the colour or temperature of the lighting according to your needs.”
Asta Petravičiūtė, IKEA interior designer

How many beds are there?
UTÅKER stackable bed looks and takes up space as one, but there are two of them, in fact. They can be quickly converted into a double bed, twin beds or corner sofa if needed. This means that Andrius will not only be able to invite more friends, but also to accommodate one of them for a night.
On both sides of the bed and above it, Asta has designed a high PLATSA wardrobe for Andrius' clothes, bedding and other items. Its shape, fronts and interior can be customized to suit individual needs.

It's all about fishing
One more PLATSA wardrobe, only smaller, found its place on the other side of the room. It serves for storing all items related to the hobby of Andrius. From now on, he can keep all the fishing and filming equipment in one place. The interior designer placed some hooks on one of the walls to hang the rods, and left another one empty, so that Andrius could film his videos without any unnecessary objects corrupting the frame.
