Before and after: a room which even princesses would envy

This week, we are guests of Kamilė and Gabija, two little sisters sharing one room. As the girls grew, their small room became too cramped, thus their older brother agreed to swap and leave his bigger room for the sisters. See how interior designer Gabrielė managed to turn a former teenage space into a room for two amazing girls.

Before the renovation

Since the room used to belong to a teenage boy, every nook and cranny had to be changed. Our interior designer had a task to create a warm and playful environment with several functional areas that meet the needs of two little girls, and to set up a comfortable place that inspires to play and lets the creativity flow.

Challenges and results

First and foremost, the interior designer divided the large room into areas by function: sleep, storage, play, and study. The latter will come in handy later when the sisters start school. We took away each piece of furniture and replaced them with the new ones, more suitable for the girls of such age. In addition to that, the colours have also changed. Together with lots of textiles, the new colour palette enriches the girl’s room with naïve cosiness.
 

Furniture for independent kids

The back wall of the room was left for storage. It is occupied with a spacious SMÅSTAD combination. The modular SMÅSTAD storage system is based on the child’s perspective, which makes it easier and more fun to get dressed on their own and keep things organised. One part of the storage solution is dedicated to clothing and the other one – for toys and books. A large bench with toy storage between the two is a great help for tidying up in a flash. We know how exhausting it is to organise toys when you are little, therefore the bench can also be used to take a break. With BÄNKKAMRAT bench pad, it is very comfy to snug on.

Cosy sleep and princess tales

In the sleeping area, the designer decided to place two beds next to each other so the girls could sleep more peacefully and chat before bedtime. Cloud-shaped wall lamps add cosiness and can be left overnight if kids are afraid of the dark, while two BRYNE nets hung over the beds provide privacy and give an impression of two real-life princesses sharing the room.

As for the princesses, both sisters love to dress up and play being them. Thus, our interior designer set up a theme princess area in the room. A soft rug here serves for a podium, a high mirror framed with MUSIK wall lamps allows to admire their outfits, and the wooden MOPPE chest of drawers is a perfect storage spot for all royal accessories.

Learning and creativity

Gabrielė set up a learning area for the future first-graders. It is planned by the window and furnished with height-adjustable pieces: a PÅHL desk and a sturdy SIBBEN/LOBERGET children's desk chair.

Next to the desk, the interior designer also left room for creativity. With MÅLA drawing paper roll hanging on the wall and storage boxes underneath the lids of FLISAT table, girls gave enough space to draw and keep their drawing tools. Not to mention their personal gallery represented by SKÅDIS pegboards with clips on the wall nearby.
