Wave farewell to flying carpets

STOPP and STOPP FILT anti-slip rug underlays keep your rugs firmly in place, so no one slips on them. Cut the underlays to any size you need. STOPP FILT, which is 4 mm thick, also helps preserve hand-knotted rugs and makes all your rugs feel thicker and softer.

What is wool?

Wool is a practical natural material that usually comes from sheep. The raw wool is washed and then spun into yarn. Wool rugs have many advantages. They're soft, warm and comfortable to walk on, and they're also very hardwearing. They're stain-resistant too, because wool has it own natural oil. This means that dirt stays on the surface and doesn't penetrate into the rug. All wool rugs shed - some more, some less - vacuum them regularly to prevent the loose fibres from scattering.

Nurturing the tradition of handmade rugs

Rug weaving has a rich history with craftmanship that has been passed down through generations. This is kept alive, in part by the skilled men and women who make IKEA rugs at weaving centres approved by us. Here, we can secure the well-being of the artisans and their communities as well as the resources we use. So, when you buy one of our handmade rugs, you become owner of a unique piece, while also contributing to positive change for the people who make them.

Big and easy

When you buy a wool pile rug, you may notice that it sheds fluff when it's new. That's because of the surplus fibres left in the rug after the production process. Loose fibres occur naturally in all real wool rugs, and will, after a while, disappear of their own accord. If you wish, however, you can speed up this natural process by vacuuming it regularly, always working with the same lengthwise movements along the rug.

On the larger of the two handwoven STOCKHOLM wool rugs, there's room for a sofa, an armchair and a table. The rugs also hide a worn floor and protect against draughts through the floor. And they're easy to fold up and move - in spite of their size.

Ideas and inspiration

New season is for new begginings
New season is for new begginings

New season promises different new beginnings for each one of us: somebody starts new year in school, leaves parents’ home, or moves to a new place. Though thrilling, changes usually come with a dash of worry. This is why it is so important to have a cozy and safe place, where you could rest your body and mind and so to prepare for challenges, brought by every new day. And so IKEA comes to help in order to make your living space into a real home in ways, affordable to everyone. And no dramatic changes are required here.

Nothing more, nothing less
Nothing more, nothing less

The stress of the city had this couple longing for a slower, simpler and more conscious life – even before their baby came along. And while becoming parents turned their world upside down, they discovered that it didn’t have to change how they wanted to live. Their cosy little apartment embodies lived-in simplicity: furnished only with things that this new little family needs and loves, with both the present and future in mind. Best of all, at a surprisingly low price too.

A versatile living area where calm is key
A versatile living area where calm is key

A combined living and dining area are common throughout the world, but here’s one that takes a refreshingly different approach. The young family who live here have tailored this small space to their specific needs and interests – with a strong emphasis on simplicity, time-enduring design and natural materials.

Ask a designer: cosy minimalism
Ask a designer: cosy minimalism

The minimalist movement is becoming more and more popular, and for good reason. Some people want to challenge the unsustainable culture of excess and consumerism; many like the idea of a calmer, less cluttered home; and for others it makes sense from a money perspective. But does going back to basics have to be so extreme? Interior designer Hans Blomquist thinks otherwise!

Upside-down house in Anyksciai

We believe that everyone deserves to live a better life at home. This is why we have solutions for all kinds of homes: small ones and large ones, the ones you rent and the ones you own, regular ones and the ones that are flipped upside down. Visit a house that our interior designer Anastasija Rogačevska has furnished for A Little Different Town in Anyksciai and you'll soon see that all homes can be cosy and comfortable. Even those with a roof upside down and a floor over your head.

When in search of a new home or casually browsing apartment ads, many of us are often drawn to recently finished constructions. In these instances, some apartments come already furnished, despite not yet being inhabited. Ever wondered who takes charge of furnishing them? Sometimes, it‘s the interior designers who work at IKEA! Explore our most recent project – a living room with an integrated kitchen, that we have designed from scratch in an unoccupied apartment available for rent or sale.
