Many years in the row, IKEA used to organise drawing competition and encourage children from all over the planet to design the soft toy that they would most like to cuddle. Of the 66 259 imaginative entries we received last year, five were selected and turned into real soft toys. Bird, Cat, Fried egg, Mermaid dog and Sandwich friends met in something we call the limited-edition SAGOSKATT collection.

SAGOSKATT is not only a collection of cute and adorable soft toys – it’s play with a purpose, since part of the purchase price goes to local initiatives supporting children’s right to play, develop and have fun.

The last soft toy drawing competition was extra special, as from this year, it will be temporarily paused. But not just because of that. For the first time in history, one of the drawing competition winners is a girl from the Baltic countries.

Meet Liepa, the designer

9-year-old Liepa from Lithuania created a soft toy called Cat. She loves drawing, playing with soft toys and sending them on various missions, therefore was very happy to know that her cuddly friend will be sold in IKEA stores all over the world.
“I like seeing my parents crack eggs over a pan – the different shapes they make, and so delicious! My toy practices yoga and football, but now he’s reading a book about chickens to see how eggs are made.”

Designer: Zosia, aged 7 from Poland
“My mermaid-dog lives in an underwater cave and her most important task is to help people and animals who get into trouble. I love the sea and I believe that such a kind and funny creature can live there!”

Designer: Savva, aged 9 from Russia
“Peanut butter is soft and Jelly is sweet – and they’re best friends. Together they taste great! I told them to be careful and kind, and to always take care of each other.”

Designer: Audrey, aged 9 from Canada
“I drew a prehistoric dodo bird that looks goofy. The tongue sticks out since they’re not very smart. If we were to pretend to do math together, he’d say in his dorky voice: – I can’t count.”

Designer: Nick, aged 10 from the USA

One toy can make a difference

The temporary collection SAGOSKATT is one of our many contributions to support all children’s right to play, develop and have fun. Together with other toys, the five toys in SAGOSKATT collection are part of the donation campaign dedicated to provide families with better home.

This is how you can contribute:
  • Visit the IKEA store from November 1 to December 31.
  • Buy any of the specially-marked toys.
  • Feel good, as 1 € of the price you pay will be donated.
All your donation will go to support makeovers at the family crisis centres.

At the first two stages of our initiative called “Notice violence”, we have created a child-friendly environment in Kaunas crisis centre for families who yet don't feel safe at their own home. And we are not willing to stop there.
